Dawn Apuan is an expert copywriter and funnel strategist. Former pastor and non-profit Executive Director, her mission now is to help female entrepreneurs sell out their most expensive offers with a top to bottom high ticket funnel that brilliantly captures their voice and messaging to attract dream clients – without costing them time and energy creating it.
After a dark season of depression and a painful break from the church where she and her husband were pastors, Dawn was determined to find a job she could work from home and still be able to contribute to the family income.
She tried several business models before she found her soul aligned business in copywriting and funnel creation.
During the interview, we talked about how important it has been to both of us to be available for our families in a way a typical job does not provide.
Show Notes
Dawn is a funnel genius! She shared the following gems with us.
A funnel is an automated system that takes cold traffic (people who don’t know about your business) and gets them to opt-in to a free offer so you build your email list. That free offer can be an ebook, a worksheet, a video training, etc.
Once the prospect has opted in, they are now on your email list. Keep them there by nurturing them. Help them get to know you and your business by providing great content related to your business and the problem you solve for your ICA (ideal client avatar).
This eventually leads to building know, like and trust with you.
You are now able to send them an offer for a paid product or service.
Suggested platforms for creating your funnels that were mentioned during the show were ClickFunnels and LeadPages. You can also create them manually on your website.

You may be wondering when is the best time to create your first funnel.
Dawn’s suggestion?
Before you are ready!
She even suggested you create one before you have a website!
Yep! You heard that right!
You want to focus your efforts here on building a relationship with your audience. Relationships are where it is at!
It isn’t just about numbers. It is about the quality of the people that make up the numbers.
Are the people on your email list actually your Ideal Client?
If you haven’t chosen a niche and defined who your ideal client is, my free Nail Your Niche Quick Start Guide is exactly what you need.
I can’t say it enough: EVERYONE IS NOT YOUR IDEAL CLIENT!
Let me give you some numbers that may help you understand why having the right people on your list is so important.
Industry standard conversion rates for an opt-in page is 30%. That means that only 30% of the people who see your opt-in page for your freebie will actually fill out the form with their name and email to get the freebie.
Now, that 30% is on your list! YAY!!
Of that 30%, only about 15% will open the emails you send them. And only 1% to 5% of the people on your email list will purchase when you email them a sales offer.
Those numbers go WAY DOWN if your list is full of people who aren’t really interested in your products and services.
3 Tips to create your most profitable marketing funnel
#1 MUST DO: Know your ideal client. Use their language. Quote them.
Don’t be afraid to narrow down. You want a very narrow niche, a very specific picture of who your ideal client is.
Only after you have hit 7 figures should you think about expanding that niche to broaden your market.
#2 MUST DO: Nail your one liner. Don’t try to be clever or catchy when you describe what you do.
Simple is better.
Like Donald Miller says, “If you confuse you lose.”
In copywriting, write at a 5th or 6th grade level. It keeps things simple for your audience.
#3 MUST DO: Think strategically about the end result that you want.
What is the customer journey that begins with this funnel?
What do you plan to sell them down the road?
Your opt-in should directly tie in to your paid offer.
Then think about how you can best serve them during the nurturing stage between the freebie and the sale.
